Savour 2014 @ The Promontory (Marina Bay)

It’s been a week since I attended Savour 2014 and I still can’t stop thinking about it.

I’ll start off by admitting that I totally went on a whim; yes, I opened my calendar, found I had nothing planned for the weekend, and decided to pass the time with an impromptu (albeit expensive) visit to one of Singapore’s most anticipated gourmet food festivals.

And I gotta say, that was one of the best impulsive decisions I’ve made this year! Good food, good place, what’s not to love about it? 😉

With that out in the open, don’t expect today’s post to be an intellectually driven exposé on which chef hails from where, and so on. My virgin experience at Savour was driven mostly by the sights, sounds and smells (plus tastes!) at The Promontory, and that’s how I’m going to share my little weekend culinary adventure with you. 😀

Bon appétit!

High Society Cafe and Restaurant @ Marina Bay Sands

Besides an extensive music catalogue, the High Society brand now has another venture under its belt: a cafe and restaurant that serves up an eclectic mix of European fusion cuisine, seasonal dishes, and (dare I say it) cupcakes named after its award-winning records.

The name “high society” speaks for itself. Its chic, Italian-inspired premises, coupled with the infectiously upbeat jazz mix that permeates it, will have you convinced that you have left the bustling corridors of Marina Bay Sands for a sophisticated European district. So does High Society Cafe and Restaurant live up to its brand’s philosophy of “living life through the enjoyment of good music and good food”? The answer is: yes! 😀

CafeSG (Best Local Cafes in Singapore)

As an avid foodie (and closet glutton), I’m constantly looking for new places to check out. Whether it’s a quick pre-movie bite or a lazy Sunday brunch, there’s nary a moment when I’m not craving for something new and delicious. What’s more, the fact that almost everything is within reach, thanks to our expanding transport system, leaves me itching to explore.

But the question, as always, is just what’s out there on our sunny island that we haven’t tried, food wise?

Enter CafeSG, an initiative by BigSpoon (a self-proclaimed mobile application cum personal waiter) that maps out all the cafes in Singapore. From established eateries to up and coming ventures, you can say that CafeSG leaves no stone unturned when it comes to locating a potential brunch or dinner spot! 😉

The Ramen Burger by The Travelling C.O.W @ The U Factory

I’ve been obsessing over Keizo Shimamoto’s Ramen Burger for the longest time ever. I mean, what’s not to love about it? Generous chunks of meat and chives tucked between two ramen noodle “buns”; it’s like Shimamoto himself answered the prayers of fast food lovers the world over by combining the two best hangover chows into one.

Just the thought of biting into that culinary hybrid is almost enough to make me want to fly to Brooklyn and get my hands on one. Luckily for me, though, The Travelling C.O.W. (Chef on Wheels), also known as Singapore’s first mobile food truck, has been whipping up various versions of the Ramen Burger at The U Factory, a temporal experimental platform down at Gillman Barracks!

So, without further ado, it’s time to say Amen to the Ramen – burger, that is! 😀

5 signs your co-worker has become your Work BFF

To the corporate newbie, the working world can be a real jungle, with cryptic industrial terminology (“vertical” doesn’t mean up and down, right?) and the occasional office beast ready to snap you up for breakfast. Does your boss’s poker face hide a smouldering rage within, or is that creepy dude sitting across you the cause of those stains that appeared mysteriously on your chair after you took the day off? (read: temporary foot rest)

For the lucky few, we have our Work BFFS, people whom we love dearly and happen to work with (BuzzFeed, 2013). Here are 5 ways to tell your co-worker has become your Work BFF.

[Closed] Sarang @ Orchard Central

[Update 8 Jun 2016: Sarang has closed.]

The trouble with living in Singapore is that you’re constantly surrounded by a myriad of mouth-watering delicacies that hail from all four corners of the world. To the effect that “What shall we have for lunch/ dinner?” sparks off an unsolvable dilemma, day after day.

And let’s not forget those fusion and concept restaurants that have popped up around our sunny island. Sometimes, I secretly wish that I have an expandable tummy just so I can eat all the food I want, without risking a tummy ache or worse, growing a second me!

First world problems aside, we made our reservations at Sarang, an up and coming Korean restaurant that has garnered a lot of hype for its Korean tapas dining concept (or so they say).

Located on the upper levels of Orchard Central, Sarang has a gorgeous alfresco dining area that commands a picturesque view of Orchard Road and beyond.

Hello 2014!

Happy New Year peeps! With 2013 behind us, I’m sure that everyone has had their fair share of firsts, laughs, ups and downs in the past 12 months. 😉 As for me, I’m just stoked that I made it through a tumultuous year in one piece, what with my graduation (finally!) and my first job. 😀

My 2013 ended with Virgin Australia Voyeur picking up my photo from Maison Ikkoku for their Insider’s Guide to Singapore. I’m pretty psyched that my work was considered good enough to be part of an actual publication and, well, it’s been a while since the thrill of seeing my photos published during my days as a news intern. 😛
