For my birthday, I decided to go all out and treat myself to a weekend staycation at Capella Singapore in Sentosa. A 5-star resort that was thrust into the international spotlight after the 2018 Trump-Kim summit took place there, this luxurious, Bali-esque property had been on my radar ever since travelling became a distant memory amid the pandemic.
I’m a firm believer that if you’re going on a staycation in place of an overseas trip, the only way worth going about it is to go all out and indulge in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thus, the Constellation Room with Private Jacuzzi ($1,850 per night) became the abode of choice.
There are only four such rooms available, each situated on the far end of the top level of the property to ensure the utmost privacy and tranquility. Mine had an unparalleled view of the sea, and the gentle rustling of the flora surrounding the outdoor jacuzzi made it easy to forget I was still technically in Singapore.
No staycation is complete without a bubble bath! The bathtub is perfect for taking in the picturesque view of the sea and is equipped with bath salts for a relaxing and rejuvenating soak.
Pro tip: Let the staff know in advance that you’re celebrating your birthday to unlock some secret treats! The pink balloons were a nice touch during my check-in, and I was very pleasantly surprised to return to some Janice Wong sweets and an aromatherapy kit, along with a handwritten birthday card from the Capella culturists. The strawberry shortcake was an added treat during my midnight Netflix binge!
The star of the show is the private jacuzzi, where you can soak to your heart’s content while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere.
It’s easy to lose track of time with so many creature comforts within reach, but don’t let that stop you from exploring Capella Singapore’s grounds! Beyond the stately colonial-style entrance are numerous facilities that take comfort and luxury up a notch. Namely the pool, which will have you feeling as though you have been whisked away to Bali.

Family Swimming Pool
There are three swimming pools where you can dip your toes: the adult swimming pool, family swimming pool, and a lap pool tucked away from the bustle of vacationing families and couples. As most couples staked out their spots by the adult pool during my visit, the family pool was relatively quiet and the infinity edge made for a sweet view while suntanning!

Luxurious restaurants like Cassia and Chef’s Table are scattered around Capella Singapore’s premises, making the resort a foodie’s haven. Bob’s Bar is the perfect spot for soaking up the sunset, and if you’re lucky, you can even score one of the day beds along the outer edge! You can even try your hand at making your own mojito at the free cocktail-making class, or sample their selection of rums.

Speaking of which, there are plenty of complimentary workshops and activities that will keep guests of all ages entertained. Be sure to register for popular classes like rum-tasting and cocktail making early, as slots are limited and get snapped up pretty quickly. Enquire with the Capella culturist team for the full list of resort activities.

The aptly-named Reading Room is a bookworm’s haven, where you can retreat for daily Afternoon Tea (3 – 5pm) and peruse the resort’s collection of books and board games. The rotating menu of (also complimentary) small bites, cakes, and teas is enough to satiate appetites while you pore over your afternoon read. I certainly felt as though I was being transported back to the colonial era amidst the stately furniture and hustling staff!

Don’t skip the Breakfast Buffet, which is served daily at The Gallery while Mediterranean-style The Knolls undergoes upgrading in the first half of the year. The menu is compact and simple, with mouthwatering selections hailing from both local and western cuisines. As with other buffets, dishes are currently plated and served a la carte, in compliance with Covid restrictions.

The Scrambled Eggs are to die for, with silky smooth eggs accompanied by delicious chicken sausages and greens. While the Singapore Laksa is undeniably rich and indulgent, boasting succulent shrimps and fishcakes coated in a decadent, fragrant coconut broth. For sweets, you can’t go wrong with the Signature Nyonya Coconut Kaya Roll.

Capella Singapore is worthy of its reputation; I was thoroughly spoilt during my stay. Not only is the property a gorgeous blend of old and new, but also the service is undeniably attentive to a fault. From the seamless check-in process to turn-down service, it’s almost as though there is an invisible butler tending to your every need. And with the plethora of complimentary activities and services available, I’d say it’s worth every cent!
