There are two stops I’ll consistently make a beeline for whenever I’m in Japan – Mister Donut and the nearest Pokémon Center.

Pokémon tie-ups with Mister Donut are common in Japan, with several other characters like Psyduck, Jigglypuff, and Diglett making their way into bakeries – and stomachs – across the country. 

The Pikachu Donut ($4.50) is a hefty Pikachu-shaped donut with banana-flavoured chocolate and chocolate whipped cream. The hints of banana in the glaze give it a fresh, tropical scent, while the chocolate whipped cream is lightly-flavoured and not overly rich. The iconic, edible mascot can be enjoyed as a decadent treat.

The Pon De Ring has become a regular guilty pleasure, so I was excited to try the Pon De Poké Ball ($3.50). The berry-flavoured glaze has a sugary texture, while the white chocolate is smooth and sweet. I recommend this if you’re looking for a lighter snack.
