When in Bangkok: Pae Sia Dimsum @ Plaeng Nam Road, Chinatown – 108-Year Old Dim Sum Cart

Fancy hundred-year old dim sum from a nostalgic food cart?

Pae Sia Dimsum has been serving just one thing every morning: siew mai.

Operating out of a little corner along Plaeng Nam Road, right before Bangkok Chinatown’s iconic food hub known as Yaowarat Road, Pae Sia Dimsum sees bustling business from the time it opens around 11am. It’s a quiet, charming fixture of Chinatown, reflective of the neighbourhood’s much calmer, late-morning atmosphere.

Don’t be fooled by third-generation owner Peasia Orasirisakul’s seemingly-aged demeanour, as he whips up trayfuls of mouthwatering siew mai and briskly doles out the desired amount for every order with an almost factory-like efficiency. At 3 baht per piece, with prices getting cheaper as you buy in bulk, Pae Sia’s siew mai is one of the cheapest eats in this part of Bangkok.

Of course, you won’t want to stop at just one. These moreish siew mai are literally bite-sized, packing immensely flavourful minced meat and mushroom in a soft, steamed skin. The light soy sauce and chili sauce compliment this simple and comforting snack well. I even found myself going back for seconds!

Pae Sia Dim Sum is a must-try for dimsum lovers and peckish tourists looking for a quick bite. How many bite-sized siew mai can you fit in your mouth?
