Corner Corner @ Duxton Road, Tanjong Pagar – Day-Time Japanese-Style Tearoom Housed in RPM by D.bespoke

With its dark wooden interiors and old-school vinyls pumping out soft jazz beats, Corner Corner makes the perfect setting for a Japanese slice-of-life drama. Yet this slice of heaven can be found in the heart of Duxton Road, a 1-min walk from Maxwell MRT station.

Corner Corner is a daytime Japanese-style coffee and tea concept that takes up the same space as RPM by D.bespoke. This chic cafe exudes cozy vibes that make you feel at home, judging by the number of customers lingering till closing.

The 30-seater cafe has also recently expanded its opening hours to Saturday, so head down early if you wish to grab a seat.

Thanks to its explosive popularity on social media, Corner Corner has no shortage of walk-in customers, so much so that the staff is kept busy around the clock, even on a weekday. I did notice they seemed slightly overwhelmed with non-stop orders, although they managed to keep the pace.

Like its space, Corner Corner keeps its menu compact, focusing on specialty drinks and simple sweets. I was also surprised to discover their sodas are made in-house, too!

The Melon Soda Float ($8+) is a nostalgic concoction of zesty melon soda and buttery vanilla ice cream topped with a single cherry. With its old-school glass serving, I was reminded of afternoons spent sipping on the rare soft drink at family gatherings. This interesting flavour is a zesty and refreshing, and perfect for beating the afternoon heat.

It’s not a cafe visit without a classic cuppa. The Kukicha ($8+) is a great option with full-bodied flavours, best enjoyed on slow afternoons.

Fans of local patisserie Pantler will be pleased to find their sweets at Corner Corner. The Nana Cream Roll Cake ($8+) earns our quintessential accolade of being “not too sweet”, with fluffy sponge cake wrapped around a rich cream.

The Mini Orange Pound Cake ($4+) is also worth checking out if you’re looking for something less rich.

Another crowd favourite is the Caramel Pudding ($8+), a simple dessert consisting of smooth, sweet custard topped with thick caramel. There’s a slight, bitter note in the caramel that pairs well with the rich custard.

Corner Corner is one of those places you want to gatekeep for as long as possible. Its understated charm makes it a true hidden gem in central Singapore. Grab a book, get comfortable, and watch the time pass over your cake and coffee.
