Talk about a business born of love. Opened by Raffles Institution alumnus Chan Boon Wee and his wife Florence, Boon’s Noodles is a handmade ban mian specialist operating at Golden Mile Food Centre, one of Singapore’s many meccas for local cuisine.

These days, it’s not enough to have just one or even two side gigs under your belt if you are a media personality. The latest to join the ranks of celebrity-restaurant owner multi-hyphenates is 987FM Sonia Chew, and her foray into the world of F&B is none other than IZY FOOK on Club Street.

Following the success of its first overseas venture with BreadTalk Group at VivoCity, Nayuki has opened its second outlet at the newly revamped Funan Mall in City Hall, with another to follow at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Orchard come July 2019.
With Lunar New Year literally around the corner, customers are flocking to their favourite bakkwa shops to get their festive fix of sweet, barbecued pork. But who says you have to queue under the sweltering hot weather?
Homegrown bakkwa chain Bee Cheng Hiang has turned its flagship store on Serangoon Road into Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery, a two-in-one retail meets bistro concept that brings the joys of purchasing your favourite Chinese snacks and enjoying a meal in a comfortable environment under one roof.

While cooking technologies and recipes advance swiftly in this day and age, nothing beats the good old fashioned dishes we grew up with. Claypot rice is one dish that stands out from my childhood. Nothing beat the satisfaction of tucking into a piping hot meal that had been diligently slow cooked over a charcoal stove, with dozens of similarly packed claypots simmering away over the flames.
House of Happiness at Bedok Shopping Complex on Bedok Road is one such eatery that is preserving this beloved dish with a few modern twists.

You’ve got to hand it to VivoCity’s Food Republic for replicating the food streets of old in their decor. Thankfully, Fu Xiang Signatures proves it’s not only style, but also substance with their signature heritage curry dishes, recipes which the current owners inherited from the stall’s first generation of owners.
One thing about Shanghai that stood out to me during my trip, was the incredible variety of street food. Step out of your house and you’ll easily find yourself spoilt for choice by the sheer amount of drool worthy creations. Best of all, you can grab and go most of them!
While xiao long bao is one of the first things that come to mind when recalling Shanghai’s street food, I thought I would compile a checklist of sorts for foodies to check out based on what my family brought me to during my very brief trip last month. Enjoy!
