An Honest Review of KFC Singapore’s Fried Chicken Skin + Where To Get It

Update 6 January 2021: KFC Fried Chicken Skin is back! Now available at all outlets for a limited time with Original Recipe and Spicy versions at $3.60.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have heard by now of KFC Singapore’s Fried Chicken Skin, which caused quite the stir when it was announced.

Since its limited release on 11 November, much of social media has turned to watching live updates on KFC Singapore’s Instagram for where to these elusive, popular chicken skins; it completely sold out at all 10 outlets where it’s available on Day One.

But before you cry, “But you can taste the same thing from peeling off the fried chicken what!” Let’s dive into my honest take on KFC’s Fried Chicken Skins.

Retailing at $3.50 per box,  these chicken skins are almost three times the price of its counterpart in Indonesia, where it was launched earlier this year. Each box comes filled with crispy skin, though to varying levels of fullness. Regardless, you’re sure to find bigger, twisted chunks to sink your teeth into.

Moment of truth: okay, these are not some run-of-the-mill, added-as-an-afterthought kind of snack I initially expected. Each individual piece is generously seasoned and salted, almost to a no holds barred level. What is cholesterol, anyway?

Best to eat it fresh, so you can experience the unadulterated pleasure of ’em crispy skins going cronch cronch cronch in your maw. It’s almost the same as chowing down on KFC’s fried chicken, but crunchier and much more sinful.

For real, though, I don’t know why fried chicken skin hasn’t taken off as much as salted egg yolk fish skin and potato chips. It’s unapologetically oil-laden, indulgent, and perfect for times when you decide calories don’t exist.

KFC’s Fried Chicken Skin is only available for a limited run at these 10 outlets, so hurry if you wanna get your hands on them. And no, it is not the same as peeling soggy, thin skin from the regular fried chicken.
