Update 19 Jan 2025: CinqueTerre has closed.
I love a good ol’ Italian restaurant where I can sample authentic European fare made with simple, wholesome ingredients. CinqueTerre is a newly-opened shophouse restaurant helmed by Chef Marco Ravera, who brings over 25 years of culinary experience from around the world to this humble corner of Tanjong Katong.

Walking in, you are greeted by a stately wood-fired oven. The restaurant’s interior is modest, with emphasis given to its flavourful cuisine served in a warm, congenial setting. CinqueTerre’s menu is straightforward, consisting mostly of pizzas, pastas, and wholesome sharing plates and appetisers.

Refresh yourselves with an Instalata Caprese ($20++) which serves up a beautiful arrangement of buffalo cheese, tomato, and basil. This vibrant appetiser brings to mind Italian summers marked by lively get-togethers and zesty dishes.

Speaking of summer, it’s the perfect season to indulge in fresh, grilled seafood. The Scamorza E Calamari ($20++) is succulent and smoky, with the smoked cheese and peas providing a light, refreshing contrast in flavours.

For mains, you can take your pick from CinqueTerre’s pastas and pizzas. The Scialatelli Fruitti Di Mare ($28++) is highly recommended with its handmade scialatelli cooked to al dente perfection, and a tomato pursue that is robust and comforting. Plus points for the fresh and succulent seafood, too!

For something creamier, go for the Ravioli Neri E Asparagi ($28++).

Each pizza is made-to-order in the wood-fired oven, so diners are guaranteed utmost freshness with each slice. The Contadina ($29++) was one of my favourite dishes of the night, although a tad on the salty side with its generous toppings of sausage and salami. Combined with the mozzarella, this pizza was delectable and tempting to the last bite.

Go all in your cheese cravings with the Truffle Flavour Pizza ($26++), which boasts an aromatic truffle cream base with mozzarella and scarmoza cheese. I loved the porcini which added some earthy notes to the cheesy base.

No visit to an Italian restaurant is complete without Tiramisu ($12++). CinqueTerre’s is not overly sweet, with just the right amount of thickness and richness in the cream and ladyfingers base. While I tend to find most tiramisu to be too rich and creamy for my liking, this struck a good balance!
