Sin & Savage Bakehouse @ Stirling Road, Queenstown – HDB Cafe Serving Elevated Comfort Food and Artisan Donuts

It’s refreshing to venture out of town and explore heartland cafes for a change. Sin & Savage Bakehouse is a little over a year old, having been opened by the team behind Mixsense Private Dining. Located at Stirling Road in Queenstown, Sin & Savage aspires to serve elevated comfort food inspired by the owners’ love of classic flavours.

As is typical of most heartland cafes, Sin & Savage is fairly compact, with most indoor real estate taken up by its baked goods counter. Brunch is served till 3pm, with a number of special dishes available only on weekends and Public Holidays. Here, you’ll find various brunch classics, albeit some with a couple of twists.

Nothing particularly adventurous about Sin & Savage’s menu – what you get is a focus on quality.

Rosti seems to be trending lately, with different cafes offering their take on this Swiss dish. I like Sin & Savage’s potato rosti for the fact that it’s well-seasoned, and not oily at all. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, it’s also portioned nicely and you can choose different toppings to your liking.

Go for the OMG Potato Rosti ($23), an Omega 3- rich plate that consists of sliced avocado, plenty of thick, smoked salmon, and confit cherry tomatoes that burst with extra juiciness and flavour. The avocado is ripe and creamy, providing a nice contrast to the crispiness of the potato rosti

It’s not a bakehouse if it can’t whip up a mean pastry or donut. Sin & Savage Bakehouse serves a wide range of artistan donuts that are brimming with sweet, indulgent flavours. The Hazelnut Ganache Donut ($4.50) was recommended to me as one of the most popular flavours and I must say, it did deliver on its recommendation! The ganache is rich and decadent, with a small amount flowing out of he sugared pastry with each slice.

Sin & Savage Bakehouse is an understated cafe on the west side of Singapore. Contrary to its name, you’ll find warm and attentive service here as well, and it’d make a nice place to recuperate from the stresses of the work week.
