Home-based bakeries in Singapore have been coming into their own recently, with some opening brick-and-mortar stores. Wheathead has been welcoming customers to their humble corner at One-North Eden since late 2024.

Tucked away in one-north, Wheathead is somewhat of a not-so-hidden gem. Arriving around half an hour before lunchtime on a weekday, I could already spot a small queue consisting of walk-in and pre-order customers.

Much of the space is occupied by an open-concept kitchen, with a standing counter for customers to receive their orders. Truly a take-and-go concept.
Food-wise, Wheathead keeps it simple. Bread-and-butter with toppings of your choice for breakfast, followed by pies and lunch sandwiches from 10 to 11am onwards.

Meat lovers may choose between the Spicy Mortadella ($18) and Stacy’s Mom’s ($19), the latter of which packs some extra greens with meat and cheese. The BBC ($21) is a recent vegetarian addition, with roasted broccoli, nuts, and cheese.
Seeing the cross-section of the Spicy Mortadella ($18) set my mouth watering. The intense saltiness of the mortadella combined with the sharp, spicy notes of the pepperoncini will give your taste buds a real kick. And of course, that crispy yet airy focaccia that Wheathead is known for.

While Wheathead has made its name in bread, there is one more thing that customers flock to it for from all corners of Singapore – its legendary Banana Cream Pie ($18 per slice, $42 for whole pie).
This indulgent dessert is truly the stuff that sweet dreams are made of, with chunky banana pieces layered with fluffy whipped cream and vanilla bean paste, on a base of rich bourbon caramel. While this might sound decadent on paper, every element is balanced perfectly, making it a surprisingly light dessert.
It is, as an Asian would put it, “not too sweet”.

For drinks, Wheathead’s Batch Brew Coffee ($5) is made from beans by Smitten Coffee Roasters. The tea selection is pretty decent as well, with Ice Rooibos Tea ($4) available if you need to cool off after a short walk under the sun.

Wheathead is worth the hype – and journey. It’s no surprise that its more popular items sell out quickly, especially on the weekend, so be sure to pre-order via its website 2 days in advance if you want to make your visit worthwhile.
