[CLOSED] 20F Specialty Coffeehouse @ Foch Road – Lavender’s “New” Clinic Turned Cafe

Update June 2020: 20F Specialty Coffeehouse has closed.

It’s a known fact that Singapore’s landscape is ever changing – with our thirst for change and progress in a limited land space, it’s not hard to imagine many of our forefathers’ domains disappearing into the tides of time.

So when word got out that a former family-run clinic was being converted into 20F Specialty Coffeehouse, a hipster cafe – with its interior embellishments intact – it no doubt caught the attention of cafe hoppers with a love for the old school. Check out the metal window grills and patterned tiles – typical of the traditional medical centres of old!

[CLOSED] Enbu 炎舞 @ Eat@7, Suntec City – Singapore’s First Warayaki and Charcoal Grill Izakaya (Sugar)

Update June 2020: Enbu has closed.

The hardest thing about leaving Japan at the end of my holidays there is saying goodbye to her rich food culture – there’s something about its freshness and keen attention to detail that can only be replicated by authentic Japanese chefs or the most well trained in Singapore.

Thanks to ANA – yes, that same Japanese airline that brought us the iconic Stars Wars themed aeroplane late this year – shoppers at Suntec City get to sample 7 popular Japanese concepts at the aptly named Eat@7, located on Suntec City’s top level. One of them being Enbu, Singapore’s first warayaki and charcoal grill izakaya.

Food here is cooked using the traditional method of warayaki – straw roasted cooking, which explains the smokiness and oh-so flavourful morsels!

Brawn and Brains @ Guillemard Road – Simple Savouries and Bakes Next to a Rockclimbing Gym

We’ve seen a number of bustling cafes and bakeries expand to better accommodate their customers; Brawn and Brains is one of them.

Tucked away in the Old Singapore Badminton Hall on Guillemard Road, the cafe has seen a healthy number of crowds especially on the weekends, when regulars of the rockclimbing gym next door drop by for a well deserved treat. And of course, those who come to enjoy fresh brews and an afternoon in this well-lit space – yay for light hungry Instagrammers like myself!

Symmetry @ Jalan Kubor – A Taste of the Good Life with Instagram Worthy Dishes (Invite)

Situated between Bugis and Lavender MRT, Symmetry is one of those long-running players in Singapore’s cafe scene, having been around for close to five years. The cafe is open seven days a week, with different operating hours on certain days to cater to the brunch crowd at different times of the week.

With a relocation in the works for a friend of mine, a farewell get-together for foodies and Instagrammers was in order, and what better place to celebrate Singapore’s cafe culture than a late brunch-cum-dinner preview on Symmetry’s alfresco area?
