Morganfield’s @ The Star Vista – The Home of Sticky Bones; Leave Your Diet at the Door (Invite)

“You’ll be trying a lot of food today,” the Morganfield’s PR representative told us as the third dish hit the table.

Morganfield’s is known for hearty American food – think Southern style BBQ, craft beers, and sinfully rich desserts  that will send your calorie counter off the charts (not that you should be counting your calories when you’re dining at the self proclaimed Home of the Sticky Bones anyway).

With their new menu launching next month, we were invited for a taste test of their upcoming dishes and signatures at their outlet at The Star Vista.

Tok Panjang Cafe @ East Coast Road – House of Peranakan Group Brings All-Day Nonya Dining to Katong (Invite)

Mention Peranakan cuisine and the word “comfort” comes to mind – tables filled to the brim with mom or grandma’s best dishes for the whole family gathered round.

House of Peranakan Group definitely had this vision in mind when they opened their fourth Tok Panjang Cafe branch along East Coast Road, judging by the homely interior and various knick knacks scattered around the dining tables.

The place was relatively quiet and empty when I arrived, almost like your forgotten quaint neighbourhood eatery in a time overtaken by fancy cafes with hipster tableware. But as the evening progressed, the crowd swelled and Tok Panjang transformed into a lively bistro, almost like your typical family reunion!

Situated between Bugis and Lavender MRT, Symmetry is one of those long-running players in Singapore’s cafe scene, having been around for close to five years. The cafe is open seven days a week, with different operating hours on certain days to cater to the brunch crowd at different times of the week.

With a relocation in the works for a friend of mine, a farewell get-together for foodies and Instagrammers was in order, and what better place to celebrate Singapore’s cafe culture than a late brunch-cum-dinner preview on Symmetry’s alfresco area?

Joie by DOZO @ Orchard Central – Vegetarian Fine Dining in the Heart of Town (Invite)

When you think vegetarian, you think healthy salads and (at times) bland smoothies; the world of fine dining hardly ever comes to mind. Well, here to prove us wrong is Joie by DOZO, a fine dining concept that aims to re-define vegetarianism to experimental, yet refined heights.

Situated on the top level of Orchard Central, Joie is somewhat like a modern day oasis, offering a panoramic view of Orchard Road from its undisturbed premises. Its name takes inspiration from the French phrase, joie de vire, which translates to “exuberant enjoyment of life”. Judging by the evening’s offerings, it’s not hard to see why.
