Don’t you just hate fumbling around your wallet for cash, or worse, getting to the front of a long queue for your favourite dish, only to find yourself devoid of it?
Thanks to DBS PayLah!, these things are soon to be history. What’s more, you can even embark on your own Hawker Trail, comprising of stalls that now accept payment using this mobile app.
While majority of the stalls are located in the CBD area and some polytechnics and universities, the others are scattered around various heartland hawker centres in Singapore. And so, my hawker trail took me to Alexandra Village Food Centre.
Four of its stalls can be dined with PayLah! namely:
Mei Wei Hainanese Chicken Rice 01-122
Lye Bo 01-27
Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao 01-56
…and Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa 01-75, which made its way into Singapore’s Michelin Bib Gourmand List in 2017 (pity the stall was closed when we were there!).
Paying via PayLah! is so easy; I’m surprised that more people haven’t taken it up already. To use the app, all you have to do is top up your wallet, scan the stall’s QR code, enter the exact amount (with a note detailing the dishes ordered, if you want), and you’re done! Buhbye to accumulating coins in your wallet, or inviting the ire of the hawkers if you – gasp – dare to pay for your meal with a $50 note!
If Singapore’s hawker centres have warmed up to electronic transactions and the like, there’s no reason for you not to use it. 😛 Hopefully we’ll see more of our favourite stalls added in the future! Thanks DBS for hooking me up with my own hawker trail.
