The K-wave is showing no signs of slowing down, with various Korean-themed eateries and Korean-inspired cafes popping up as of late. If you’re craving an authentic Korean street food experience, Myeongdong District – not to be confused with the iconic shopping and fashion belt – recently set up shop in Fortune Centre.
Like its neighbours, Myeongdong District sports a barebones interior with cozy tables set amidst a bright orange backdrop. A K-pop track playing in the background would definitely add to the “Korean street food stall” atmosphere. The eatery cum takeaway kiosk is operated by a pair of young gentlemen who prepare every dish to order.
The menu is as straightforward as they come, with small bites and snacks that wouldn’t look out of place at an actual Korean food stand. You’ll even find corndogs – which are all the rage now – being sold here.
Opt for the Mozza or Cheddar Corndog if you’re after that iconic #cheesepull shot. The Gamja Corndog ($6) makes for a very substantial snack with a hotdog deep-fried with batter and french fries. I like how the fries are nice and crisp without being over oily. You can also add two sauces of your choice, so I went with ketchup and mustard which helped elevate the taste of the fries!

Diners who are looking for something more substantial than street snacks are in luck. Myeongdong District also serves a Soy Garlic Chicken Tenders Rice Set ($7) complete with kimchi. The chicken is succulent and delicious, and the soy garlic sauce has a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Despite the rice not being much to write home about, it’s well worth its price. Four Fingers, watch out!

Part of Myeongdong District’s charm lies in how understated it is, from its interior to its straightforward menu. It’s a solid addition not only to Fortune Centre, but also to Singapore’s Korean food scene. If you’re looking for a fuss-free option for Korean street food in Bugis, head over here!
