On Day 1 of our recent work trip to Tokyo, we were eager to tuck into some good ol’ Japanese food after a hectic afternoon. As it turns out, Shouhei Ramen was right around the corner from our hotel in Nishishinjuku.
The counter-only eatery seems to be frequently patronised by office workers from the neighbouring buildings. Come nighttime, you can find a couple of diners huddled over their food. Tsukemen, or dipping-style ramen, seems to be one of the more popular choices at Shouhei Ramen.
Stepping in, you’ll be greeted by an overpowering aroma, most likely from the miso. Most dishes are priced affordably between ¥650 to ¥1,000.
The noodles are cooked al dente, and the broth is unabashedly intense and flavourful. The hearty portions are definitely made for diners with larger appetites, with thick, yet tender chashu that yields to each bite.

Ramen (¥650)
Shouhei Ramen is open till 10.30pm daily, making it a convenient supper spot if you’re in the mood for tsukemen or ramen.
