I have a thing for unpretentious, unfussy places that serve authentic and lip-smackingly delicious cuisine, more so if said cuisine is Italian. Santi’s Pizza & Produce is a fully open-air eatery in Telok Ayer that prides itself on quality products and sustainability in its cooking.

Occupying the space of a former hawker stall, Santi’s is owned by veteran cafe Sarnies which is located right next door. (Talk about having both your hustles side by side for convenience.) Its rectangular and elongated space makes it conducive for people-watching while enjoying your food and drinks in relative comfort in the shade. Casual is the name of the game here. 

Santi’s, while well-known for its artisanal sourdough pizzas with intense flavours, also churns out some mean pastas and sharing plates.

The Vodka Sugo & Italian Sausage ($24++) is highly recommended and one of Santi’s more decadent offerings. Pappardelle is cooked perfectly al dente with a mouthwatering combination of sauces and cheeses. The tartness of the tomato sugo is contrasted perfectly with the sharp, yet rich pecorino romano, stracciatella, and pappardelle. The vodka, chilli, and norcina sausage top it all off with some much-needed heat. Unabashedly rich and flavourful, this is one pasta dish worth cheating on your diet for.

With Singapore’s weather being as intense as it is, a refreshing drink is always appreciated. Aside from the usual tipples, Santi’s Pizza & Produce also boasts its own line of kombucha. The Guava, Pineapple & Ginger Booch ($7.30) is one such fizzy and fruity concoction.

Santi’s Pizza & Produce adds a vibrant touch to Telok Ayer Street, with its quality food, carefree atmosphere, and great service. It’d be nice to re-visit this spot and sample more of its dishes with a few friends…and extra tummies.
