Autumn Winter 2013 Collection @ New Look (OMY Blog Club)

Call me crazy, but I’ve never been big on autumn and winter.

It probably has something to do with the (slightly) traumatizing experience of my winter holidays, when I had to trudge through ankle deep snow while freezing in sub zero temperatures. Besides, how many of us actually relish the idea of looking like a penguin who’s trying to impersonate an overstuffed dumpling?

So for the majority of my life, my sunny, tank-top-filled wardrobe and the dark, heavy textiles of the chilly seasons have been pretty much incompatible. That is, until New Look rolled out three new looks (pun unintended!) for its Autumn Winter 2013 Collection.

My DIY Gakkenflex TLR

I received a DIY Gakkenflex TLR Camera from a good friend of mine on my 21st birthday, and I’ve only gotten round to shooting two rolls of film on it ever since.

Well, one and a half, to be exact.

You see, I’m not one who’s into the whole fix-it-yourself-with-nothing-but-a-Japanese-manual business (although it was my friend’s way of introducing me to analog photography). So it took a while before I got round to fixing up about a quarter, before my lovely friends took over and settled the rest (amazingly with half the moaning and whinging I did). 😀

[CLOSED] Kraze Burger @ The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

Update June 2020: Kraze Burger has closed.

There are three things in life that one should never not cheat on: exams, lovers, and diets.

But if you absolutely have to cheat on the last item in this list, you’d better be darned sure that those calories you’re flirting with are worth every. Single. Bite.

Arriving at the pristine halls of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands one evening, my friend and I were famished, having spent the afternoon at the ArtScience Museum. Having little room in our wallets for more damage from the other chi-chi fine dining places, and not willing to spend our precious moolah on a certain high end food court (which to me isn’t half as good as the next hawker centre), an affordable, yet satisfying meal was in order.

We decided on Kraze Burger.

Established in 1998, Kraze Burger is a South Korean franchise on a mission to take on one of the West’s most iconic offerings: the ubiquitous hamburger.  Walking into its green and brown hued interior, one could easily mistake it for a Western pub – that is, until the upbeat tunes of PSY, Big Bang and the like clue you in.

Monster Maki @ Maki-San (30 Aug – 13 Sept 2013)

Ever so often, there comes a rivalry that rocks our generation. From the catty fallout between Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, to the relentless tug-of-war with Mac and PC – anything and everything is a potential battleground to see who can come out tops.

And Maki-San is no exception.

Touted as “the mother of all battles”, the Monster Maki menu was launched in conjunction with the cafe’s 1st Anniversary Bash. Boasting a whopping 10 ingredients each, the Gargan (a meat-based sushi roll) and the Tsunamo (its seafood opponent) will be rollin’ for 2 weeks, during which fans get to vote for their favourite Monster based on taste, appearance, or the sheer novelty of it.

And the prize? A permanent spot on the menu.

My 1st Craftholic

I finally caved in and bought my first ever Craftholic last weekend

Working in a nine to five job means that I’m desk bound most of the time, which creates fodder for back aches and the like, especially when I’ve a longstanding tendency to hunch after sitting still for a prolonged length of time.

So why not get one of those cutesy cushions for my seat and, at the same time, brighten up my humble lil space at the office? Enter Craftholics. 😀

[CLOSED] Bakerzin @ Vivocity

Update 20 Jan 2025: Bakerzin has closed.

When it comes to pasta, I’m not one to go big on fancy schmancy restaurants.

Raised on my family’s frugal philosophy, I grew up with the mentality that I shouldn’t have to pay good money for whatever I can nail in my own kitchen… which explains why I still head over to McDonald’s for my Hot Cake fix 😛 (but that’s a story for another day).

So when my friend suggested lunch at Bakerzin in VivoCity, I couldn’t help but feel a little skeptical.

Don’t get me wrong; I was a fan when they first opened their doors in Tampines 1, but since then, their menu has seen so many changes that I hardly know what to expect (pretty much like every girl who’s seen the love of her life morph into a douche over time). That, coupled with a few not-so-pleasant dining experiences, put it waaaay below on my list of to-dine places in the West.

But as they say, everyone deserves a second chance, and restaurants are no exception. So, I thought, why the hell not? 😀

Follow the Yellow Paneled Ceiling (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences @ NUS)

I made a trip back to my old school, NUS, shortly after I graduated, armed with little more than my trusty Leica IIIF RD and a mental map of all the places I intended to visit and photograph.

Call me crazy for making that oh so dreaded Journey to the West, but there was no way I could stop myself after reading the umpteenth article about how places on this sunny island are constantly changing (no thanks to a relentless effort to drive our country to modernity).

Being the sentimental person that I am, I wanted nothing more than to snap an album full of pictures before it undergoes a complete face lift over the next decade.
