Savour 2014 @ The Promontory (Marina Bay)

It’s been a week since I attended Savour 2014 and I still can’t stop thinking about it.

Image

I’ll start off by admitting that I totally went on a whim; yes, I opened my calendar, found I had nothing planned for the weekend, and decided to pass the time with an impromptu (albeit expensive) visit to one of Singapore’s most anticipated gourmet food festivals.

And I gotta say, that was one of the best impulsive decisions I’ve made this year! Good food, good place, what’s not to love about it? 😉

With that out in the open, don’t expect today’s post to be an intellectually driven exposé on which chef hails from where, and so on. My virgin experience at Savour was driven mostly by the sights, sounds and smells (plus tastes!) at The Promontory, and that’s how I’m going to share my little weekend culinary adventure with you. 😀

Bon appétit!

High Society Cafe and Restaurant @ Marina Bay Sands

Besides an extensive music catalogue, the High Society brand now has another venture under its belt: a cafe and restaurant that serves up an eclectic mix of European fusion cuisine, seasonal dishes, and (dare I say it) cupcakes named after its award-winning records.

The name “high society” speaks for itself. Its chic, Italian-inspired premises, coupled with the infectiously upbeat jazz mix that permeates it, will have you convinced that you have left the bustling corridors of Marina Bay Sands for a sophisticated European district. So does High Society Cafe and Restaurant live up to its brand’s philosophy of “living life through the enjoyment of good music and good food”? The answer is: yes! 😀

[CLOSED] EwF by Everything with Fries @ Orchard Central

Update 20 Jan 2025: EwF has closed.

I can never get enough of burgers and fries.

When I was little, nothing thrilled me more than the thought of kicking back with a juicy burger and a pile of fresh cut fries, especially after a long day out with my parents.

As with every childhood love, it evolves with age, growing beyond the usual McDonald’s and Burger King combos that our childhood palates were so used to. These days, it’s my friends whom I am constantly on the lookout with for new, exciting options. 😀

And so, when my friends and I met for an impromptu dinner one weekday night, we unanimously decided on EwF by Everything with Fries. After all, what better way to recuperate from a demanding day at work, than with some much deserved comfort food? 😀

[CLOSED] Dolce Tokyo @ 313 Somerset

Update 20 Jan 2025: Dolce Tokyo has closed.

I’ve been visiting a number of Japanese-Italian cafes of late – whether it’s for a hearty Sunday brunch, or a one-on-one R&R over a cake and a piping hot cuppa. There’s something exquisite about Western cuisine, coupled with the unmatched level of attention paid by the Japanese to detail, which never ceases to delight my palate.

Dolce Tokyo is no exception. Tucked between Lowry’s Farm and Uniqlo at 313 Somerset, (which are coincidentally clothing giants from Japan) MOF’s latest venture boasts an extensive menu of all-day breakfasts, drinks, mains, and a variety of quirky desserts. But more on that later. 😉

Restaurants and cafes in town are notoriously crowded on weekends (for obvious reasons), so we were pleasantly surprised to find it relatively empty and quiet throughout our meal. It was just as well, since we got to soak in the casual atmosphere and smooth jazzy beats that permeated Dolce Tokyo’s 58-seater premises. 😉

[CLOSED] Skinny Pizza @ Raffles City

Update 20 Jan 2025: Skinny Pizza has closed.

If I could pick just one dish to eat for the rest of my life, it’s got to be pizza. There’s something about that crust-and-toppings combination that makes my mouth water just at the thought of it. And not forgetting the communal aspect of slicing and sharing, which makes it a welcome staple at any event, be it a birthday party or a simple get-together. 😉

Yet, what sets a good pizza apart from a great one is its crust: the technique involved in making it light and crisp, and its ability to compliment the myriad of ingredients on top.

When I met up with a couple of Hall mates to check out the Consumer and Electronics Exhibition a couple of weeks back, a casual and hearty meal was in order. And what better way to fuel up than at Skinny Pizza! 😀

4 Fingers Crispy Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

Touted as the best Korean fried chicken in town (good enough to give BonChon Chicken a run for its money), 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken sure has a lot to live up to.

But – surprise, surprise – this is no franchise hailing from Korea. It’s actually the brain child of four good friends (hence the name!) who wanted to bring the awesomeness of Korean fried chicken from New York City to our sunny island. And with long queues snaking outside both outlets at ION Orchard and Plaza Singapura, there’s no denying that they’ve nailed it! 😉

[CLOSED] Krispy Kreme @ Tangs Orchard

Update 20 Jan 2025: Krispy Kreme has closed at Tangs Orchard. Visit their other outlets.

When you live in a country that’s all about food, getting your hands on the latest food fad is an achievement that’s held in as high regard as say, finding the Holy Grail. Heck, that highly coveted bite that’s hogging your Instagram feed is the Holy Grail!

So when Krispy Kreme finally opened its doors on our sunny island, specifically, in the basement of Tangs Orchard, you can imagine the hype.  Free doughnuts, crazy queues, and dozens upon dozens of coverage across social media (see what I did there? :P ).

Oh, and that green polka dotted paper bag emblazoned with its name in red? It’s pretty much the Chanel of the doughnut world on this side of the Equator as we speak (or eat).

And so, I became one of ‘em “typical Singaporeans who will jump in a queue that’s longer than the Great Wall of China for the in thing”, on the pretext of pretext of promising my parents a taste of those delicious, pillow soft doughnuts.
