[CLOSED] Catkin by Huishan @ Wilkie Road, Rochor – Elegant Dessert and Tea Experience Inspired by Local Flavours

Update 19 Jan 2025: Catkin has closed.

While I’m not big on sweets, I never fail to gravitate toward plated desserts, especially for their fine details and craft.

Catkin by Huishan is the latest space to launch its own line of locally-inspired desserts, led by ex-Willow head pastry chef, Soh Hui Shan. Situated within Twenty-Eight Cafe on Wilkie Road, Catkin appears to be a one-woman operation where you can watch your desserts assembled before you.

Dessert omakase is pretty uncommon in Singapore, and it’s Chef Soh’s mission to break into this niche market, starting with a trio of mod Sin creations that evoke memories of our favourite childhood snacks.

L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro @ Duxton Hill – Authentic and Intimate French-Style Bistro

Steak and fries is an unpretentious dish that has been enjoyed for generations at many a bistro in France. After all, you can’t go wrong with a solid cut of steak and crisp, umami fries on the side!

L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro has perfected the art of steak and fries so well, it has become synonymous with the very dish in Singapore. So when Restaurant Week rolled around late last year, I couldn’t pass up on the chance to try it for myself, along with other classic French fares.

[CLOSED] Park Bench Deli @ Telok Ayer, Tanjong Pagar – Sit-Down Deli with Hearty American-Style Breakfasts and Sandwiches

Update March 2023: Park Bench Deli has closed.

Park Bench Deli is proof that you never rest on your laurels, no matter how popular you may be. The American-inspired deli has undergone three different iterations since opening its doors at Telok Ayer some seven years ago.

Its most recent transformation is its most drastic thus far, transforming the deli from a casual sandwich shop to a full sit-down experience complete with cozy booths and intimate lighting.

[CLOSED] Okashi Gaku @ Suntec City, City Hall – Viral Japanese Cake Vending Machine Arrives in Singapore (Media)

Update 19 Jan 2025: Okashi Gaku’s vending machine has been removed.

I’m a sucker for cakes and snacks that come in cute packages, so when Okashi Gaku‘s cake-in-a-can first went viral on Japanese social media, I immediately added it to my bucket list for my next (if ever) trip. Fortunately, trying these cakes for ourselves will be a reality come 16 September, when its first overseas machine opens at the entrance of Eat at Seven in Suntec City
