Park Bench Deli is proof that you never rest on your laurels, no matter how popular you may be. The American-inspired deli has undergone three different iterations since opening its doors at Telok Ayer some seven years ago.

Its most recent transformation is its most drastic thus far, transforming the deli from a casual sandwich shop to a full sit-down experience complete with cozy booths and intimate lighting.

While sandwiches are still the name of the game here, Park Bench Deli’s menu has expanded to include more elaborate brunch items now that the dine-in setup is more… conducive.

The Big Breakfast ($28++) marks the cafe’s biggest departure from its sandwich beginnings, with a fully loaded plate of ricotta hotcakes with lemon curd, scrambled eggs, tater tots, sausages, and bacon. It’s a decadent heaping of all-American breakfast favourites that are perfect for tucking into on a weekend afternoon.

Portions are perfect for two light eaters, and there’s nothing on the plate that’s not worthy of a mention. The hotcakes melt in your mouth, while the tater tots and bacon are fried to crisp perfection, and the scrambled eggs yield a wonderful texture. If you’re looking for a hearty start to the day and calorie-counting is not on the agenda, this is the breakfast to go for. 

Big Breakfast ($28++)

The Breakfast Burrito ($24+) swaps out bacon and sausages with house-smoked pastrami to deliver a more compact version of the Big Breakfast. Biting into it, I could taste every single layer of meat with tater tots and Russian dressing, and the smokey, umami flavours of the pastrami sent me to gastronomic heaven.

Park Bench Deli is undoubtedly one of the more solid brunch options in the area, and it’s great to find they have not compromised on portions or standards over the years. Run, don’t walk to this brunch spot!
