District 10 Bar Tapas Restaurant @ Star Vista

District 10 menu

There’s nothing that I love more than a night of good food and good company, and with the newly opened Star Vista a mere three stops away from school, these two things are easily within reach after a long day of classes. C:

I’ll be honest and say that Star Vista wasn’t our first choice for a get-together; it all started when we were thinking about snapping up a Groupon deal for an Ala Carte buffet with free flow tapas, pasta, and pizza at another restaurant. But after reading the less than enticing reviews online, we settled on District 10 Bar Tapas Restaurant instead. Since it offered something similar, why not? 😀

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Star Vista, District 10 was bustling with diners when I arrived from a networking session in school. With its menu of over 35 tapas, pinchos and more laid out enticingly on an A3-sized paper on the table, I was really spoiled for choice!

District 10 Tapas

Good things come in twos.

We started off with a couple of pinchos (that’s Spanish for spike), or bar snacks as they’re typically known in Spain. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just a small bite though; their generous servings of meat or vegetables over crusty pieces of bread is more than enough to fill your tummy if you’re a small eater!

For me, I went straight for the Smoked Salmon with Potato Salad (S$3.80). Just look at that thick slice of salmon! The freshness and the temperature was just right, and with the light, fluffy potato salad underneath it, this was a real treat for the taste buds. The green olive was a nice finish to this simple, yet delicious snack. 😀

District 10 Sauteed Mushroom with Quail Egg The Sauteed Mushroom with Quail Egg (S$3.80) is a must-try for those who love their eggs sunny side up. With the yolk looking like it’s on the verge of bursting, this could be a potentially messy eat, but it wasn’t! The egg oozed out just enough yolk, and made a thin layer over the mushrooms. Definitely puts a nice twist on the egg-and-mushrooms breakfast combination. C:

District 10 Brie Cheese with Caramelised Onion Olivia’s Brie Cheese with Caramelised Onion (S$3.80) which I gave a miss (so I could save space in my tummy for later) but looked appetizing none the less. I love how they layer their ingredients so perfectly on top of one another and in just the right amounts!

District 10 Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom and Bearnaise Sauce

Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom and Bearnaise Sauce – one of the reasons why I can never turn vegetarian.

Being major carnivores, we couldn’t resist ordering a couple of skewers too. When the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom and Bearnaise Sauce (S$14) skewer arrived at our table, all conversation came to a halt as we just sat there salivating at those huge cubes of beef slathered in sauce. If heaven could be served on a stick, this is definitely it; the beef simply melts in your mouth and the rich, tangy Bearnaise sauce is enough to make you feel, literally, like the most blessed person ever!

District 10 Grilled Salmon with Vegetables

After that amazing experience on our taste buds, the Grilled Salmon with Vegetables (S$14) had a lot to live up to, but luckily, it did not disappoint. I hate eating bell peppers (my mom has the hardest time trying to get me to eat them at home), but after this, I might just be converted. 😀 District 10 Roasted Seabass in lemon butter sauce

With so many goodies from just two menus, you wouldn’t want to waste your calories on one huge main. We went for their relatively lighter dishes, like the Roasted Seabass in lemon butter sauce (S$27). Yes, it’s definitely one of the pricier items and it would set you back quite a bit, but it’s so worth a try. Unlike the grilled salmon which was slightly tougher, the texture of the seabass was perfect, and went well with the sauce and the vegetables.

We were pretty much stuffed by the time we finished all our dishes, so we skipped dessert.

What I love about District 10 is that its dishes are simple, fresh, and fun to choose from. Service and atmosphere was great too, as our waitress (a pretty blonde lady) was extremely attentive and always on hand to clear our dishes so we would have room for more! C:My only regret though, was that we didn’t get to try everything, so we will definitely be back for sure!
