Dining in may be on hold for now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still meet online! For our recent virtual team lunch, we settled on some meaty grub from Meating Place, a casual meat joint known for its affordable wagyu-based offerings. 

Located on the ground level of DUO Galleria in Bugis, Meating Place specialises in hearty rice and pasta bowls, burgers, and sandwiches. 

Wagyu beef has become a fixture with most rice bowl joints, and Meating Place is no exception. The Wagyu Tender ($26) is a popular choice on the lunch menu. Slow-cooked slices of wagyu are topped with crispy garlic, complimented by shredded crispy potato that gives the dish a much-needed umami dose. The runny onsen egg adds yolky goodness to the brown cargo rice base.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable rice bowl that would be a touch tastier had it arrived a little warmer. I would imagine this to be a real comfort food option when enjoyed at Meating Place itself.

For drinks, Meating Place serves a variety of tipples, cold brews, and teas. The Lavender Milky Way ($8) is satisfyingly fragrant, with a lavender aftertaste coming through strongly. Normally, I find most lavender-based foods overly perfumey and cloying, but this one was just right!
