Ben & Jerry’s Flagship Scoop Shop Opening @ 313 Somerset (Invite)

Fans of Ben & Jerry’s are in for a double treat – with the opening of their new Flagship Scoop Store at 313 Somerset Discovery Walk, one can enjoy no less than 18 exciting ice cream flavours, along with new shakes, sundaes, ice cream cakes and merchandise in the heart of Singapore.

What’s more, with baked goods and herbs being supplied by SCORE Bakery and Edible Garden City, a rehabilitation outlet for inmates and urban farming group respectively, who’s to say you can’t indulge your sweet tooth without doing a little good to society? 😀

On top of that, the Flagship Scoop Store will also host a new Benefit Tuesday Night programme for local welfare organizations to engage the public; the first of which was tonight’s preview of the Peace, Love & Commoonity Sundae, courtesy of international food artist (and my personal favourite food Instagrammer of all time), Samantha Lee.

Mention Tai Seng and the image conjured is that of industrial estates and droll cafeterias; classic Western fare and all-day brunch hardly factor in this neck of the woods.

And yet, just when every upscale neighbourhood and heartland corner finds itself saturated, along comes The Commerze with its smattering of cafes and salad bars. Thanks to Sugar’s search-by-location function, I chanced upon 23 Jumpin’ and decided to check it out.

[MOVED] Windowsill In The Woods @ Jalan Besar (Now At Upper Thomson)

When it comes to keeping up with the explosion of cafes all over Singapore, along with its rapidly evolving food trends,  I find myself craving for something classic, something that’s stayed true to its brand through the test of time. After trying their delectable offerings at Artistry, I was eager to discover more culinary creations at Windowsill’s main branch over at Jalan Besar.

Set amidst a sleepy stretch of old-school coffeeshops and hardware stores, Windowsill in the Woods sticks out with its decidedly whimsical exterior which is reminiscent of the patterns you see on Christmas cards. The place was bustling yet with a tinge of tranquility when I visited; plus points for well-spaced tables and even a cozy alcove area with floor to length windows to make you feel like you’re literally dining by a windowsill. 😉

[CLOSED] PARK @ Holland Village (Sugar)

Update 20 Jan 2025: PARK has closed.

Every now and then, I like to hop off the train on the way home just to see what new places there are that I haven’t tried yet. Hey, what’s a little de-tour to let off some steam from a hectic day at the office, aye? 😉

PARK at Holland Village is one of those cafe cum bistros that I’ve been putting off visiting, till a sudden change of plans left me free (and aimless) at dinnertime. Its prime location just a stone’s throw away from Holland Village MRT station, coupled with its relative seclusion from the busier parts of the neighbourhood, meant precious me-time to unwind and eat. Plus, there’re all those rave reviews about their truffle fries and mac & cheese so why not!

[MOVED] FATCAT Ice Cream Bar @ Bedok North

Update 20 Jan 2025: FATCAT has moved to Simon Road.

Just when our eyes glazed over and we thought to ourselves, “Not another generic waffles and coffee place,” FATCAT surpassed the local cafe game, taste and concept wise. Think gourmet ice cream and plated desserts in the least likely places – Bedok.

At the start of 2015, my Instagram feed exploded with pretty desserts and fluffy charcoal waffles flowing with liu sha, igniting my curiosity in this not-so-hidden-gem in the east. Well, it’s been three months since its official opening, and the crowds (and pre-opening queues) have NOT died down.

[CLOSED] 2 Loaves @ Tanglin Halt (Sugar)

Update June 2020: 2 Loaves has closed.

Was it two loaves and five fishes? Or five loaves and two fishes? Either way, one thing’s for certain: 2 Loaves is whipping a mean bake this side of Singapore.

Like the neighbourhood it is located in, 2 Loaves is a laid back, unpretentious bakery, reminiscent of the days when we would rush to the likes of Bengawan Solo for an after school snack. Its brother and sister team are a friendly, cheerful bunch who welcome you genially no matter the time of the day, a definite plus in today’s age of impersonal and sometimes sullen servers. 🙂

As their famous loaf cakes were sold out the first time I visited, I ended up swinging by their cozy little space twice in as many weeks. So here’s this eastie’s verdict of whether 2 Loaves’ creations are worth the trip for!
