Update 19 Jan 2025: House of Happiness has closed.

While cooking technologies and recipes advance swiftly in this day and age, nothing beats the good old fashioned dishes we grew up with. Claypot rice is one dish that stands out from my childhood. Nothing beat the satisfaction of tucking into a piping hot meal that had been diligently slow cooked over a charcoal stove, with dozens of similarly packed claypots simmering away over the flames.

House of Happiness at Bedok Shopping Complex on Bedok Road is one such eatery that is preserving this beloved dish with a few modern twists.

Keisuke Omurice @ Bugis+ – Keisuke’s 17th Restaurant Featuring Fluffy Omelette Rice, Triple Cheese Sauce, and Pasta

You would be hard pressed to discuss Japanese cuisine in Singapore without mentioning Keisuke. The famed restaurant chain started by celebrity chef Keisuke Takeda has certainly made its presence known in this little red dot known with a whopping 17 outlets to date, each serving its own take on ramen or some other Japanese staple.

And the latest addition to the Keisuke empire is none other than Keisuke Omurice, which opened its doors on Monday at Bugis+.

There’s something to be said about cafes that are able to stand the test of time in Singapore’s food scene – and the finicky fads that come and go with initially strong players that turn out to be no more than flashes in a pan.

The name Lots Gourmet might ring a bell with cafe goers of old. Established back in 2009 (way before hipster cafes and indie coffee joints started sprouting across the island), the humble establishment has come a long way from its cozy premises in Upper Changi Road, to its lavish new home at Changi Civil Service Club on Netheravon Road.
