With so much going on during the week, a brief R&R over comfort food and drinks is just what you need to recharge over the weekend. Simple and cozy spots like Rise and Grind Coffee Co at Bukit Timah Plaza do just the trick for a no-frills, early afternoon respite.
Rise and Grind’s inaugural outlet (with the second being in the North East region of Punggol) is situated along the outward facing side of Bukit Timah Mall, secluding its indoor and alfresco areas from the mall’s indoor traffic and activities. Simplicity is the theme here, with cozily arranged tables inviting you to take a step into this cafe.
On Rise and Grind’s menu are the usual brunch suspects like truffle fries, salads, and lattes. The Red Velvet Latte ($5) tastes comforting and sweet, though its bubble riddled appearance is somewhat disappointing.
I quite enjoyed my Ocean’s Thirteen ($18), which is Rise and Grind’s fancier term for Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon.
No idea if the owners are ardent fans of George Clooney’s movie franchise, but the vibrant arrangement of guacamole, beetroot marmalade, and lemon wedge alongside the ikura is a feast for the eyes! The extra ingredients helped transform an otherwise ordinary brunch item into something quite enjoyable, though I would have enjoyed it more if the sourdough toast was less soggy.
While not a particularly remarkable player in the ever growing cafe scene, Rise and Grind does offer simple pleasures in its cozy space. It’s a good spot to swing by for a quick bite, or a casual afternoon hangout with friends if you are staying in the west part of Singapore.
