[MOVED] Kith Cafe @ Park Mall

Update 20 Jan 2025: Kith Cafe has closed at Park Mall. Visit their other outlets.

Tucked away in a relatively quiet part of Dhoby Ghaut at Park Mall, Kith Cafe is one of those places I’ve been hearing rave reviews about, but have always put off paying it a visit. Well last weekend brought a sudden downpour, which made Kith an ideal place to brunch at since it was too troublesome to explore other options in view of the weather.

Chock Full Of Beans @ Changi Village

If you’ve found your Instagram feed flooded with pictures of eye-catching 2D and 3D latte art, you’ve Chock Full of Beans partly to thank for it. Opened a couple of years back, the cafe has recently gained a following for its adorable, edible artistry.

Tucked away in a corner of Changi Village, CFOB presents itself as a rustic haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city on the east side of Singapore. It is a relatively small cafe, with most diners seated in a shady alfresco area littered with wooden furniture and a long high table for larger groups – or if you, like me, like to perch somewhere high up while doing a little reading and writing over a cuppa. 😉

With much of the hype centred around its latte art, I’ll skip that and tell you about Chock Full of Beans’ other beverage selections – which are equally enticing and picture-worthy! 😛

Fourplay @ Domino’s Pizza (Invite)

Anyone who’s ever tried ordering a pizza would know that the number one pain behind it is deciding what flavour to get. It’s hard to imagine one of the world’s favourite fast food having a downside (aside from an obscene amount of calories), but there you go: like Team Edward and Team Jacob, or Donald Trump and Russell Brand, there is just no way of uniting the culinary world over a one-flavour-satisfies-all-cravings mindset.

Thankfully, with its Half and Half Pizza, the good people at Domino’s has made it possible for you to enjoy two toppings on a single crust! And – get this – no surcharge whatsoever if you choose to have it that way! Because why should anyone be made to pay extra for wanting to experiment with over 300 possible combinations on a pizza crust, amirite? 😀

[CLOSED] The Mama Shop @ Pearl’s Hill Terrace

Update 12 Oct 2015: The Mama Shop is closed till further notice.

It doesn’t get any more old school than this; a 10-seater, retro-style cafe at the Old Police Operational Headquarters, a heritage building off the beaten track from Chinatown. Named after the ubiquitous neighbourhood snacks and trinkets shop, Felicia Chin and Sora Ma’s foray into the cafe business, The Mama Shop, is gaining attention for its blend of local-infused snacks and drinks, as well as a nostalgic array of knick-knacks displayed on its shopfront.

[CLOSED] Fish Tales @ *SCAPE

Update 20 Jan 2025: Fish Tales has closed.

Cafes and poached eggs may be all the rage now, but there are times when we’d like nothing more than to retreat to some good ol’ fast food after a long and tiring day. Fish Tales, with its plethora of seafood burgers, pastas and more, is one such that place that recently opened in town.

Located on *SCAPE’s second level, which is essentially the ground level just beyond the flea market, the cafe’s sitting area is spread across the far end of the building, making it ideal for a casual meal. Most diners are young adults and adolescents, as befits *SCAPE’s youth oriented vibe.

[CLOSED] Stranger’s Reunion @ Outram Park

Update 20 Jan 2025: Stranger’s Reunion has closed.

Us Singaporeans sure have a way of making our lives revolve around food; we spend the better half of the morning looking forward to lunch, do most of our socialising over a cuppa – heck, we even make a hobby out of it by way of cafe hopping.

It’s no wonder, then, that places like Stranger’s Reunion have since become synonymous with the coming together of people over a shared love of food. Like a reliable friend who you can always count on, this quaint cafe stayed open during the recent public holiday so off we went to take advantage of the remainder of our long weekend!

[CLOSED] Artistry Cafe @ Kampong Glam

Update June 2020: Artistry has closed.

Ever heard of those legendary hawker stalls that open to snaking queues and sell out before the day is halfway through? I feel like Artistry is on its way to setting that benchmark in the cafe world. Its hot favourites, namely Big Breakfast and Eggs on Toast, sell like hot cakes and, coupled with a kitchen that closes at 4pm everyday, means that a full course indulgence eludes customers who are none the wiser, i.e. me.

Nevertheless, a ten minute pilgrimage under Singapore’s unforgiving sun from Bugis Junction to its Kampong Glam based premises warrants a reward for the rumbling tummy, so I decided to give the good folks at Artistry a chance on both visits, and boy, am I glad I did. 😉
