It’s difficult to find French food that is both affordable and palatable, especially in the pricier downtown areas. Yet somehow, Saveur at The Cathay has managed to nail these two qualities in its menu throughout the years.
Originally known as Concetto by Saveur, the industrial themed, minimally decorated restaurant has transformed to another branch for this wildly successful, homegrown chain. Hard to believe Saveur actually has its riits in a humble hawker stall!
The famous Saveur Pasta ($5.90++ for starter, $10.90++ for main), remains as popular and consistent as ever. A combination of perfectly twirled angel hair, chilli oil, chopped kombu, minced pork sauce and sakura ebi that is both pleasing to the eyes on the palate, and makes for a tasty yet filling starter. You can now enjoy it as a main too!
Other favourites like the Signature Duck Confit ($16.90++) and Pistachio Panna Cotta ($8.90++) remain key fixtures in the menu, having made their way to many a diners’ table on crowded evenings.
The Homemade Duck Rillette ($6.90++) is a very generous plating of double mustard, gherkins, onion, and rustic French baguette. Perfect for sharing with a partner over a lazy Sunday meet up.
