While I’m not too big on desserts, I’m always down for a lil sweet treat now and then. Heck, the more dramatic, the better.

So when the fantastically Instagram famous Aqua S from Sydney, Australia announced their plans to set up shop in Singapore, I was pretty intrigued. As I had never tried their pastel hued soft serve, often hidden behind a voluminous cloud of cotton candy on my social media feed, I was eager to try it out when they opened their doors this week at Orchard Xchange.

For the uninitiated, Aqua S was dreamt up by its founders, who wanted to replicate the flavours and experiences from their trip to Okinawa, Japan. The shop’s signature blue tinted soft serve flavour, sea-salt, is the shop’s only fixed flavour, with two special flavours rotating on a weekly basis.

You can have your soft serve in a Black Waffle Cone ($6.40) or Aqua Cup ($5.40 for regular, $6.40 for large). Though, it won’t really matter pictures wise once you add Fairy Floss – more on that later!

While I had no prior experience to compare the Singapore branch with, I can safely say that the Signature Sea-Salt deserves its praise. Milky rich and creamy without bordering on cloying, the distinct notes of sea salt reminded me of a very tasty butterscotch. The special flavours of the week, Lychee and Thai Milk Tea, were equally rich, and went well with the sea-salt.

Of course, no soft serve at Aqua S is complete without embellishments! Toppings ($0.80 each) include Toasted Marshmallow (complete with chocolate biscuit stick), Pop Rocks, Sweet Popcorn, and the Fairy Floss which absolutely engulfs the entire cone or cup.

True to the original shop, Aqua S’s Singapore outlet features their whimsical wall cloud, a popular backdrop for many customers who could be spotted photographing their desserts.  Coupled with the efficient and amicable service, it’s a welcome addition to Singapore’s F&B scene!
