Located a five to ten minute drive from Tampines and Tanah Merah MRT stations, The Bedok Marketplace is often overlooked by food seekers in favour of its neighbours. Which is shame really, because of the myriad hidden gems among its selections, such as The Chop Chop Selections. 

Tucked away at the furthermost row of stalls, The Chop Chop Selections specialises in Western chops and platters, but also dishes up Asian style comfort food during lunch hours (12pm – 2.30pm). 

The Chef Curry Rice Special ($5) pairs mild flavoured curry, rice, and achar with crispy chicken cutlet, crispy tender pork chop, or pan seared Dory fish. Though presented in a simple manner, the aromas wafting from the curry rice will be enough to whet appetites.

The Crispy Chicken Cutlet yields tender meat which goes well with the curry, and is generously portioned without verging on jelat. So is the Pan Seared Dory Fish, which is delightfully savoury and melts in your mouth. Though, the Crispy Tender Pork Chop was a tad hard to chew and could do with a touch more tenderness.

But what’s a chop specialty store without good ol’ roast pork? Meet Sio Bak Peng ($5)! Fans of this traditional Singaporean dish will love biting into crackling roast pork beautifully arranged with special pineapple sauce. The BBQ flavour is subtle and does not overpower the natural flavours of the pork.

Worth a mention is the Chef Special Laksa Pasta ($6), a classic Singaporean fusion dish. Boasting stir fry prawns, half a boiled egg, and crispy tau pok soaked in laksa sauce, this East meets West pasta brings to mind a dry version of our favourite laksa, and is the perfect choice for those who cannot decide between two cuisines for lunch!

The Fiery Noodles, which is not yet on the menu, will be one to watch for spice lovers. Be warned, this deceptively unassuming dish packs quite the punch!
