Shabu and Bento Lunch Sets @ Dashi Master Marusaya, Robertson Quay – Feast to Your Heart’s Content on Japanese Lunch Sets (Media)

Dashi Master Marusaya at Robertson Blue is certainly no stranger to cooking up delectable, tantalising dishes that stay true to the essence of Japanese cuisine. Adding to their impressive line-up of shabu shabu specials, grilled, and tempura offerings is their new Set Lunch Menu which launches today!

Options range from decadent bento sets to handmade udon and hot toban sets, and will leave diners spoilt for choice. Prices start from $22++ for simple offerings like simmered beef, or you can go ham and indulge your tastebuds in a culinary journey around Japan.

The highlight of Dashi Master Marusaya’s set lunch range is the Shokado Bento Box ($58++), which can best be described as a never-ending treasure trove of all the Japanese goodies one can think of. This exquisite bento includes a variety of the restaurant’s signature appetisers, including tempura, grilled fish, two kinds of sashimi, and chawanmushi. Every element comes together perfectly to treat you to a robust range of flavours.

And it doesn’t end there. Diners also get two – yes two – small bowls of homemade udon and salmon and ikura rice. Made using imported flour from Japan, the udon contains no preservatives or artificial flavouring, allowing you to enjoy its springiness amid the rich, umami broth.

Seeking respite from an unexpected dip in temperature? You can’t go wrong with the Dashi Shabu Set Lunch which includes a choice of Hokkaido Pork ($28++),  US Angus Beef ($38++), and Wagyu ($48++). Regulars will recognise Marusaya’s signature all-natural dashi, meticulously prepared using 2-year old dried bonito from Kagoshima and natural rishiri kelp from Hokkaido.

The wagyu melts in your mouth to yield rich, umami notes combined with the meat’s natural flavours once cooked. You can also get refills of your soup if it runs out.

Each Lunch Set includes a choice of three side dishes. Don’t mistake them for paltry sidekicks to the main star, as they are equally delicious and complement the main dish perfectly!

Choices include: dashimaki (egg), edamame (soybeans), ohitashi (Japanese spinach salad), nanbanzuke (fried dish), hijiki seaweeed, fried chicken, California roll (2 pieces), and matcha cake.

The hot toban lunch sets are… set to warm your bellies. A true melt-in-your-mouth experience awaits in the Wagyu Toban Set ($48++), which serves up generous slices of subliminally umami wagyu that leaves you salivating for more.

My inner Aquarius simply loved the Tuna Belly Don Set ($38++), which blew me away with its fresh, clean flavours. Seafood lovers can feast to their heart’s content on the bowl’s tuna belly slices, which don’t seem to end. Definitely one of the more “value for money” sets!
