When it comes to kicking back and relaxing, nothing beats a trip to a good ol’ heartland cafe. The Twisted Trio opened its doors early this year, in the heart of Toa Payoh.
This “hole in the wall” cafe is almost a literal hole in the wall, with a grand total of five seats available in its cosy premises. Better head here fast if you want to get your hands on their cakes and baked goods! Most of The Twisted Trio’s regulars seem to be residents around Lorong 4.
Expect simple, classic recipes. While the famed Watermelon Rose Cake was sold out by the time we visited, we managed to get our hands on a slice of Earl Grey White Chocolate ($5.50). This delectable treat is not too heavy on the palate, with the earl grey mix pretty light and airy. The white chocolate icing adds a slightly rich touch to the slice. Overall, a perfect afternoon treat for those seeking some comfort for their tea.

Burnt cheesecakes are all the rage now, and The Twisted Trio is not one to miss out on trendy bakes. The Matcha Burnt Cheesecake ($8) is a hefty, dense one that oozes earthy flavours. While the cake yields a hint of matcha notes, the cheese flavour is far stronger.

On a sleepy, late Sunday afternoon, The Twisted Trio makes for an ideal spot to watch the world go by. There’s not a lot of fanfare going around its compact space, but then again, when comforting flavours abound, they pretty much speak for itself.
