There has been a spate of Michelin Bib Gourmand hawker recipients expanding beyond their home bases and setting up shop across Singapore. Good for them – and good for us to be able to get a taste of their revered recipes closer to home! One of these growing hawker businesses is Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, which recently opened its third outpost in Tampines Street 81.

Duo Chicken Rice ($5 – $6)
Owned by a former chef from Mandarin Hotel, home to the famous Chatterbox Chicken Rice, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice has earned its chops for its succulent meat and fragrant white rice. While its original Chicken Rice goes for $3.50 – $4.50 a plate, you can opt for the Duo Chicken Rice ($5 – $6) for a taste of both steamed and roasted meat.
My vote goes to the steamed chicken, which is slightly more tender and moist than the roasted meat. The roasted version is notably tender, though a tad dry. As for the rice, it’s satisfyingly fragrant and fluffy.
The new Tampines outpost makes Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice’s delicious offerings accessible to customers in the heartlands. Overall, it’s a pretty decent option if you’re living nearby!
