If you didn’t open a cafe in Katong, can you really consider yourself part of the OG hipster neighbourhood? Atlas Coffeehouse Group marks its foray into east Singapore with Neptune, a chic cafe serving all-day brunch and other comfort foods.
Having taken over from the now-defunct Firebake, Neptune’s interior is comparatively brighter, with an almost airy atmosphere. You could easily power through a few remote work tasks here on a slow weekday afternoon.
Like its chic, modern minimalist decor, Neptune’s menu is straightforward, comprising mostly eggs and toast, pasta, and sweet baked goods. If you’re not looking to venture too far away from the classics, the eggs and toasts are hearty, reliable dishes with robust flavours.
The Chorizo, Eggs & Avocado ($21.40) does not hold back on portions, with the smashed avocado yielding some citrus and heat from the accompanying chorizo. The sourdough toast isn’t too heavy on the tummy either, with its light and airy texture making it easy to sink your teeth into. It’s certainly a hearty, indulgent way to start your day if calorie-counting isn’t high on your priorities.

East meets west with the Chili Crab & Chorizo ($22.50), another hearty eggs and toast dish that doesn’t hold back on the spice. The chilli crab is delightfully fresh and plump, and pairs well with the scrambled eggs.
