Situated along Duxton Road, two-months-old Monte Risaia represents a journey in more ways than one. For one, it is helmed by Head Chef Taizo Yamada, who moved to Singapore in 2019 for his first culinary experience outside Japan. For another, the restaurant is an homage to Chef Taizo’s background in Japanese-Italian cuisine, with a menu that executes Japanese cuisine with Italian flair, omakase style.

Roots Mediterranean may have been around for a little under four months, but it has already made its home among resident of Watten Estate, Bukit Timah. A steady crowd of expats could be seen steadily filling up the restaurant’s expansive premises, till it was practically full house when we visited on a Saturday evening.
What’s better than chilling at a beer garden with a cold one? Chilling at a beer garden that’s completely air conditioned! Tiger Beer has opened its first concept store at Jewel Changi Airport, and it’s already scoring major brownie points with yours truly.

While Thai cuisine is commonly associated with tom yum, green curry, and other fiery dishes, few in Singapore would be able to make the connection between Thai and Chinese cuisine – specifically, Teochew cuisine. In fact, the culinary scene in Samphanthawong District’s Chinatown bears heavy influences from migrant Teochew merchants who were once called Royal Chinese จนี หลวง.
Since its opening in 2016, Soi Thai Soi Nice has blazed a trail for authentic and scrumptious Thai cuisine in Singapore’s food scene. Starting this month, both outlets in Jurong East and Sengkang will draw on the rich flavours and heritage of Bangkok’s Teochew settlers of old, to let diners savour this lesser known side of Thai cuisine.
