Following the success of The Affogato Bar, Singapore’s first standalone coffee bar to specialise in affogato desserts, The Affogato Group has opened its second concept, The Affogato Lounge on the ground floor of boutique hotel KeSa House on Keong Saik Road.
Walking in, you would be forgiven if you mistook it for the hotel’s extended lobby. After all, a makeshift check-in counter is situated at the end of a high top bar facing the guest area. Other than the occasional disruption from a couple of guests ambling through the glass doors, the cafe remained quiet and calm throughout the afternoon we spent there.
The Affogato Lounge’s interior is defined by distinct geometric wood patterns and dark turquoise accents. While there is plenty of room to go around, I can forsee the two couch areas becoming a highly popular spot for OOTD picture taking!
When it comes to food and drinks, The Affogato Lounge spoils you silly with an extensive range of savouries and sweets to choose from. Choose from a selection of teas from Pryce and coffees from New Zealand roaster Ozone Coffee Roaster for your afternoon cuppa. Or, indulge in a cocktail or spirit of your choice come evening.
The Eldorado ($20++), which features a concoction of whisky, spice island marmalade, citrus, and egg white, was highly recommended by the staff, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
The eponymous affogato desserts, while pricey, are worth a try if you’re in for some decadent indulgence. Each features a double shot of espresso on the side, which you can pour to your liking.
With such dainty creations that display a keen attention to detail, it feels almost sinful to douse them carelessly with the espresso, let alone eat them. But hey, anything to let you feel like you contributed even the tiniest step to customising your desserts!
The Fleur De Caramel ($15++) is a fun affogato dessert that features salted caramel ice cream with dark cacao, salted caramel, and 55% chocolate. Sweet meets bitter in this rich creation, with the krispies adding some crunch to an otherwise one dimensional creation.
The Tiramisu ($20++) adds a fun spin to the beloved Italian classic.
The richness of the dark chocolate ice cream is a perfect contrast to its accompanying elements, which include mascaporne, brown sugar, and house blend liquor. Take a little time to dig in and appreciate each layer of tastes and textures, and you will soon find a treasure trove of ladyfingers that have long been saturated with the liquor and doubleshot espresso.
Visually plain, yet decadently rich and flavourful, the Tiramisu is proof that you don’t need bells and whistles to stand out.
A scoop of 70% dark chocolate sorbet bordered by poprock-filled chocolate crumbles and cream, made the Trilogy ($16++) a perfect, bittersweet end to our visit. Served in a martini glass, this sophisticated looking dessert is testament to The Affogato Lounge’s talent in plating beautiful, tasty desserts.
The Affogato Lounge is a perfect addition to KeSa House, and an ideal place to head to for post-meal sweets. I would certainly love to check out the rest of the hotel when I get the chance! Thanks for having us.
