There’s brunch on the weekend, and then there’s brunch on the weekend, if you catch my drift. Moroccan cafe Bacha Coffee set up shop in the heart of Singapore’s shopping district, in ION Orchard, and the experience is nothing short of o-p-u-l-e-n-t. 

Inspired by the Dar el Bacha palace in Marrakech, the exquisite cafe boasts robust orange and blue coloured decor with heavy Moroccan influences. With modern jazz beats permeating the cafe’s premises, it does feel as though you have left Singapore behind, and stepped into exotic new grounds. 

Bacha Coffee is a cafe that is specially catered to coffee lovers, with coffee memorabilia and a dizzying variety of beans for the picking. You’ll be intrigued to find the book of coffee selection is way thicker than the regular menu. Flip away and find yourself enthralled by the detailed descriptions and origins of each and every coffee bean in this modern oasis. 

Being a non-coffee drinker myself, and keen to avoid the effects of an unwanted caffeine rush, I opted for one of the few non-coffee choices on the menu. The Hot Chocolate ($9++) is a decently decadent concoction that should satisfy the sweet-toothed. I like that it’s not overly cloying, though the beverage is not particularly something to write home about. I would probably keep a lookout for the coffees next time. For the same price, you can score yourself a pot full of coffee to share.

The Scrambled Eggs with Black Truffle ($24++) – oh my – knocks every other scrambled egg dish I’ve had out of the park. It might not look like much in photos, but the eggs are *chef’s kiss. Every bite melts in your mouth, and coats your tastebuds with a silky smoothness that is to die for. The black truffle adds a touch of luxury to this otherwise ordinary brunch dish, and to top it off, the toast is distinctly fluffy, and a delight to mop up all that leftover egg with.

Even if you’re not a coffee connoisseur, you absolutely should check out Bacha Coffee if you’re looking for a place to #treatyoself. The sweets are as well crafted and decadent, especially the Gourmet Sweet Croissants ($8++ for two), which also features seasonal flavours! For a full afternoon of indulgence, go for the Afternoon Coffee Sets ($36 – $40++).
