I may be working at the far end of Raffles Place now, but I’ll always be an Amoy Street gal at heart. There’s just something exciting about discovering new local joints in that hood that can’t quite be found anywhere else in Singapore. Arriving at this bustling mecca of local and foreign flavours two months ago was LUNA, a local patisserie chock full of artisanal cakes and other baked goods.

As you know what they say: no circuit breaker period is gonna stop me from trying new cafes and restaurants beyond the east side of Singapore! Especially with food delivery services making things more convenient for us diners.

Update 19 Jan 2025: Going Om has moved to Bali Lane.

I’ll admit that staying home 24/7 this circuit breaker season in Singapore has got me feeling a tad sluggigh, a little down. But that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to eat healthy and treat our bodies well!

I got to know about Going Om, a hipster salad bar meets yoga studio during one of my daily “Where shall I order from today?” monologues with the office on Google Hangouts. Turns out this neat little joint has been operating out of their eclectically-themed premises in Haji Lane for awhile now, with regulars returning for their gigantic salads and desi fries.

[CLOSED] Brown Butter Cafe @ Forum The Shopping Mall – Photogenic Cafe with Avocado-Centric Dishes and Drinks

Update 19 Jan 2025: Brown Butter has closed.

It’s no secret that I absolutely love anything and everything to do with avocadoes. I love avocado on toast. I love it in a smoothie. And if I could, I would absolutely curl up in an avocado half and sleep in it.

So when Brown Butter, a pastel-themed cafe with avocado and beetroot-centric dishes opened its doors at Forum The Shopping Mall, I knew I had to pay it a visit.

Brown Butter is the latest foodie venture by the team behind Benjamin Browns and Hana Japanese Restaurant, known for their insanely eye-catching creations like the OTT milkshakes and flying noodles. Expectations were definitely high when we visited.

Gather @ Raffles Hotel, City Hall – Kinfolk-esque French Crepe Cafe by the Team Behind PUNCH, Ronin, and The Plain

With the new decade, comes change. As we bade a quiet goodbye to hipster hideout Ronin in January, Raffles Hotel welcomed some a quaint new addition by the same team behind PUNCH and the defunct The Plain.

Simply named Gather, this old-school cafe cum retail space specialises in French-style crepes and galettes, along with a handful of baked goods and coffees.

[MOVED] Sofi Cafe Pizza by Pasta Brava @ Craig Road, Tanjong Pagar – Quaint Hipster Cafe Serving Pastas, Pizzas, and All-Day Brunch

Update Jan 2023: Sofi Cafe Pizza has moved to Scarlet Hotel.

Tanjong Pagar Conservation Area along Craig Road is home to a number of establishments and eateries, tucked away from its towering, modern-day neighbours in quaint two-storey buildings.

It’s been a long time since I last cafe-hopped in Singapore, and Sofi Cafe Pizza by Pasta Brava seemed an apt place to kick off my food ventures in 2020!
