LUNA @ Amoy Street, Tanjong Pagar – Delicate Cakes and Sweet Treats in the CBD; Islandwide Delivery at $7

I may be working at the far end of Raffles Place now, but I’ll always be an Amoy Street gal at heart. There’s just something exciting about discovering new local joints in that hood that can’t quite be found anywhere else in Singapore. Arriving at this bustling mecca of local and foreign flavours two months ago was LUNA, a local patisserie chock full of artisanal cakes and other baked goods.

As you know what they say: no circuit breaker period is gonna stop me from trying new cafes and restaurants beyond the east side of Singapore! Especially with food delivery services making things more convenient for us diners.

One item of LUNA’s that has captured foodies’ attention is the Orh Nee Cake ($8 per slice; $80 for whole cake), a blend of traditional flavours with modern techniques.

Familiar, comforting flavours of yam gingko paste and yam cubes come together with coconut Chantilly cream in a velvety mix, separated by layers of soft, pumpkin sponge. A delicate, subtly-flavoured treat for the tastebuds indeed! And definitely one of LUNA’s prettiest cakes.

No patisserie menu is complete without the ever ubiquitous matcha dessert. The Matcha White Chocolate ($8 per slice; $80 for whole cake) is exceptionally light with a slight taste of sweetness from the Valrhona Ivoire 35% chocolate ganache.

Chocolate lovers can find their lil slice of heaven in the Dark Chocolate Speculoos ($8 per slice; $80 for whole cake). The rich, decadent layers of chocolate buttermilk sponge and Speculoos filling, topped with Valrhona Guanaja 70% ganache is a definite winner for me.

Amoy folks, you’re in luck! LUNA is one strong contender to Singapore’s patisserie scene, and I can understand why cake lovers were flocking to its store before circuit breaker measures were put in place. Those in need of a sugar fix can order directly from their online store, with islandwide delivery fees capped at $7, and free delivery for orders totalling $45 and above!
