With work picking up once more, it’s important to be able to take care of yourself and make time for the little joys in life. This weekend, I struck one more cafe off my ever-growing list of places to try!
Kream & Kensho had been on my radar for a while now, having taken over Stranger’s Reunion’s former space in Kampong Bahru in late 2020.
Update 19 Jan 2025: Mylo’s has closed.
There’s nothing quite like discovering new hangout spots in your home turf. Mylo’s recently took over the space formerly occupied by Fennel Cafe, serving homemade gelatos, baked goods, and even dog treats for your four-legged friends. Located at Gardens by the Bay’s Active Garden, the gorgeous glasshouse cafe is the perfect spot to catch your breath – and maybe some tempting desserts.

I’ve written about Le Matin Patisserie so frequently, it’s almost as though I’ve become a regular. But, it would be a sin to not venture to its experimental bakery at Raeburn Park after sampling their sweet and savoury boxes!

Some things are just better when they’re bigger. Fat macarons, or “fatcarons 뚱카롱” as they’re affectionally known, originated in South Korea where pastry chefs began inserting all sorts of thick, heavy fillings instead of the typically thinner, cream fillings between the macaron shells. Now available in Singapore, thanks to some enterprising home bakers, one can only guess how crazy creative these fat macarons will get!
If you’re looking to get your hands on some fat macarons, Whites Bakery is one such home baker who started churning out these larger-than-life darlings around last year.
After my first try of Le Matin Patisserie’s Travel Series, I was eager to sample the Singapore-based bakery’s other creations. To my delight, Chef Mohammed Al-Matin, whom the bakery is named after, has come up with another selection of delectable savoury treats!
Savoury Assemblage ($58)
Dubbed the Savoury Assemblage V1 ($58), the first of Le Matin’s savoury series contains four hand-crafted savoury bakes perfect for breakfast, lunch, or even a spot of afternoon indulgence. As always, look forward to clever takes on classic European staples.
Update 19 Jan 2025: Little Rogue Coffee has moved to Yong Siak Street.
Tanjong Katong has become somewhat one of Singapore’s meccas for cafe-hopping, with hipster hangout spots and coffee joints aplenty. And with dine-in restrictions easing *once more*, there’s no better time to head out and explore than now!
Little Rogue Coffee is a Melbourne-inspired cafe that recently opened its doors on Tanjong Katong Road. Helmed by a husband-and-wife team, the cafe took inspiration for its name from the cheeky and playful nature of the owners’ children. You can apparently even donate or exchange books at the cafe’s community library!
Tampines’ cafe and desserts scene just got a little busier – hooray! – with the arrival of Around Cafe’s second outpost in the east. Occupying a gorgeous glasshouse outside The Alps, a condominium situated a bus ride away from Tampines West MRT Station, Around Cafe is fast becoming a crowd favourite with its light-filled vicinity and overseas cafe vibes.
