I had my first taste of Chef Chen Kentaro’s 2-star Japanese-Szechuan cuisine during a media session at Shisen Hanten years ago. And since then, I haven’t been able to get my mind off his melt-in-the-mouth, buttery smooth Mapo Tofu with a spicy kickk
Well, good news for foodies on a non-Michelin budget: you can savour Chef Chen Kentaro’s mouthwatering creations at price-friendly points at Chen’s Mapo Tofu in the heart of Singapore’s central business district, OUE Downtown 2 in Tanjong Pagar!
Expect to sample Szechuan dishes with Japanese influences at this casual eatery, which hosts hungry office dwellers come lunch and dinner time. The ever-famous Mapo Tofu 麻婆豆腐 makes its appearance in the Mapo Don ($10.50), which serves up a mouthwatering bowl of premium Japanese rice, topped with a silky blanket of bite-sized tofu covered in a fragrant amalgamation of minced meat and fermented bean sauce.
The spicy textures and flavours, coupled with soft, fluffy rice, takes comfort food to another level.
Noodle lovers can indulge in some Dan Dan Mien 担担面 ($10.50). Available dry or in a soup, these toothsome noodles are elevated by the use of distinctly peanut-y sauce and you guessed it – minced meat. Why can’t my 12mn supper jaunts to the kitchen yield tasty results like this?
Diners who are spoilt for choice can go for the Signature Combo ($12.80), which serves up two half-servings of Mapo Don and Dan Dan Mien. A sinful carb best, but an indulgent one that brings your tastebuds one step closer to that dream dinner at Shisen Hanten nonetheless!
For this period, Chen’s Mapo Tofu is offering island-wide delivery through Oddle, with delivery charges starting from $5. For essential workers around their Tanjong Pagar outpost, enjoy 20% off takeaway from Monday to Friday, before 12pm or after 3pm!
