Right before Phase 2 Heightened Alert kicked in in Singapore, I was able to squeeze in one last cafe visit at one of The Forage Cafe’s outlets in Pari Burong, near Simpang Bedok.
Taking over from now-defunct D’zerts Cafe, this bustling spot prides itself on its honey-themed menu, with cafe and brunch fare sweetened by a shot of honey. You can even shop from 13 Honey’s range from the cafe’s retail corner.
Veteran cafe hoppers would know that waffles are synonymous with hipster cafes by now, thanks to the explosion of waffle-themed joints from about five years back. The Smoked Salmon and Eggs Grilled Waffle Sandwich ($17.90++) serves up a stack of smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise sandwiched between a couple of thick, fluffy waffles that pair perfectly with the 13 Honey. There are also some greens, cut fruit, and truffle mushrooms to round up this hearty dish.
The intense sweetness help to elevate them fluffy layers, while contrasting with the savoury elements. And the waffles remained oh so crisp throughout the meal! I can’t help thinking that scrambled eggs would be far better for this combination, though. The mayonnaise did get a bit cloying after awhile.

Sweet-toothed diners can indulge in some Dessert Waffles ($10.90 – $18.90++) with a choice of Salted Caramel or Berries. The salted caramel was well received at our table, but a scoop of ice cream would have added that refreshing, sweet touch to balance out the richness of the waffle.

The Forage Cafe also appeals to Asian leaning palates with a selection of Japanese rice bowls. Love the Salmon Mentai Rice Bowl ($16.90++) with its colourful elements and thick slab of salmon! Move over, Yoshinoya.

The Forage Cafe embodies what cafes should be all about – wholesome food, decent price points, and a theme that ties the entire menu together. There are also two outlets across Singapore, so neither Easties nor Westies will feel left out!
