Shake Shack is turning up the heat in Singapore with the debut of the all-new Dark Meat Hot Chicken ($10.80) islandwide on 21 March 2022. First released in the US as a limited-time item in 2017, the spicy chicken sandwich has undergone a few tweaks to become Shake Shack’s first-ever creation featuring dark meat chicken.
With all-natural, cage-free chicken thigh that is slow-cooked in buttermilk marinade, hand-dipped in Shack-made batter, and crisp-fried, the Dark Meat Hot Chicken burger yields meat that is tender and flavourful, with a mild kick emanating from the chicken meat’s crisp exterior. The spice level in this burger is pretty tolerable and will appeal even to diners with a lower spice threshold. Certainly not as intense as Popeye’s’ Cajun Burger, so you can indulge without breaking into a sweat!
The Louisiana hot sauce slaw that comes sandwiched between the patty and the bun could do with a touch more flavour, but it does offset the deep-fried decadence of the chicken thigh. I would also have preferred if the pickles could be thicker, to add more dimension to the burger.

Dark Meat Hot Chicken Burger ($10.80)
All in all, it’s a pretty solid addition to Shake Shack’s Singapore menu, and a worthy contender to the classic ShackBurger. I wouldn’t mind snacking on it in the form of Chicken Bites!
The Dark Meat Hot Chicken burger rolls into Shake Shacks islandwide on 21 March. No news of whether it’s a time-limited or permanent flavour, but don’t put off trying it especially if you’re a fried chicken lover!
