OG halal Fluff Bakery – known for its cupcakes – has gotten a second lease of life as Big Mouth Bakehouse. A partner of popular specialty coffee brand Penny University, the new Halal bakery cafe now offers a variety of in-house artisanal bakes, as well as mouthwatering desserts.
Occupying the same space as partner Penny University at Wisma Geylang Serai, the twenty-seater cafe is the embodiment of a cozy neighbourhood joint, with warm service and a regular stream of customers sweeping up their baked goods off the shelves.
True to its name, Big Mouth Bakehouse’s goods are made in-house, with Asian-inspired flavours among its bestsellers. The Laksa Mayo Heirloom Tomato Flatbread ($7) is a must-try with its homely flavours tucked into the soft and chewy flatbread. Biting in, I could taste the rich, coconut-forward flavours of the laksa mayo sauce blending with the juiciness of the heirloom tomato. A definite guilty pleasure where East meets West.

Another highlight is the Thai Beef Salad Foccacia Sandwich ($12.50), which pairs fragrant minced beef and fresh salad with crisp, yet fluffy focaccia bread. The kicker is the accompanying Thai chilli green sauce, which elevates the flavours with its punchiness and spice.

Other indulgent options include the Dulce de Leche Banana Cream Pie ($8.50), which layers banana with a rich cream and caramel-laden base that is perfect for cheat days.

Like the Jamu Cooler ($7.50), a sobert-style drink that pairs the traditional Indonesian tumeric ginger brew with Perendjak tea.
